After several years of creating Christmas décor and designs for events and interior designers, I started this Christmas blog to create all of the wilder holiday designs I dream of.
I feel completely comfortable outing myself as a follower and lover of the Simplified brand by Emily Ley. Their art and creative direction is joyful, playful, and ever-evolving, which is a pretty difficult trinity to achieve. When I saw that they had come out with holiday gift wrap I immediately ordered several rolls! All that was left was to create something cheerful and preppy with Simplified’s Christmas wrapping paper.
Simplified Christmas Wrapping
Wrapping gifts is a fun and low-stakes way to get creative during the holidays. However, it does take time if you plan to be really playful and maximalist. So if you’d like to go beyond the traditional wrap and ribbon styles, give yourself an afternoon to have fun.
MY BLUE AND PINK CHRISTMAS PRESENT COLLECTION
The Southern preppy style of this wrapping collection makes it easy to play with. You really can’t go wrong with going maximalist or adding glitter, or even keeping it simple. But, I think we all know I’m probably not going to keep it simple.
I started with the blue gingham paper, knowing I wanted to add a scalloped detail to my large present. Because the paper is double sided (yay!), I didn’t need to supplement the Simplified paper with any other brands. I cut one end of the blue gingham into a scalloped trim. Then, using a scrap piece of the same roll (which has a dark blue back) cut out another graphic trim that echoed the gingham one. Before adding adhesive to the gingham wrap I slipped the dark blue piece underneath, so that the scallop really shows. And, instead of adding a traditional ribbon around the box, I added a few small bows down the side. Adorable!
The Simplified Nutcracker Christmas wrapping is a dream because it has such a large color palette. The nutcrackers are done in an ombre of Simplified’s cheeful color palette. I love a non-traditional Christmas palette, so this gift wrap is an easy win for me! Since one of the gifts I was wrapping was a hardbacked book, I thought it would be fun to add a gold corner detail that called-back to the metal edges Simplified adds to their planners. It’s one of those things that my gift recipient won’t get, but I love it and it looks interesting. A pink scalloped bow ties this gift into my gingham scalloped package.
While I love the nutcracker gift wrap, my favorite roll is the pineapples and holly. It feels festive and fresh. I ended up wrapping quite a few gifts in that paper, and then wishing I’d ordered enough to wrap more. The corresponding pineapple and holly ribbon is lovely too. The colors are a little more vibrant, but it pairs well together and would look gorgeous on pink or white gift wrap!

Gift Tags: The nutcracker gift wrap makes excellent DIY gift tags! I trimmed some scraps in a tag shape around individual nutcrackers and added them to my gifts as custom tags. Since the back of the paper is matte and not white, it feels much more high end than typical DIY gift tags.
Place Cards: If you’ve got a knack for hand lettering, this heavier-weight matte gift wrap will make amazing place cards for your Christmas table. To get rid of the natural curl, stretch your paper out and weigh down the corners for about a day. Then you’ll have a flat surface to cut and work on.
Paper Bows: If you’ve never made paper bows, you’re missing out! There are so many styles that take less than five minutes to make. Poke around on Pinterest to find dozens of paper bow DIYs. Paper bows look great on gifts, wreaths, and garlands. The Simplified wrapping paper is a heavy quality matte print, which is my favorite paper type for bows.
Garlands: I used all of my Christmas wrapping paper scraps to create several different types of paper garlands. One I made entirely of preppy paper bows by gluing the back of each to a ribbon. Then, with my leftover gift tags, I made a few other garlands. For a tag garland you can fold the paper over and glue it together. Or you can glue the top of a single-sided tag directly to the ribbon.
