After several years of creating Christmas décor and designs for events and interior designers, I started this Christmas blog to create all of the wilder holiday designs I dream of.
Sometimes you get an idea for a craft in your head. There’s no purpose for it, but you end up with a crepe paper radish and life is great.
This is one of those craft projects that truly is more about the process than the product. I’ve been wanting to learn and make crepe paper flowers for a few years, but there just hasn’t been the time or a super strong urge to make something in particular. You know how it goes. So all of the supplies sat while I worked on other things.
Then, I saw an adorable glass Christmas ornament shaped like a radish. It was genuinely so cute that I looked at it for a while until I thought, “You know what, I bet I could make a crepe paper radish that would be equally as adorable.” And I feel like I’ve been proved right!
Making A Crepe Paper Radish
I should have been better about taking process photos as I crafted these, but I wasn’t totally sure how they’d turn out! Because they did turn out so well, I have a crepe paper radish – adjacent project coming in the near future. And for that one I’ll be sure to take process photos.
For these radishes, the leaves are made in a traditional crepe paper style (cut triangles), but the stem is a visible to look more radish-like.
The bulk of the radish is simply a styrofoam ball, covered in crepe paper and then painted and glittered. So simple, if a little time consuming.
Now, since this blog is technically dedicated to Christmas decorations, I feel like I need to think about how to integrate these! The colors of radishes really do lend themselves well to Christmas decor. Maybe I’ll make a farmer’s market themed tree or some kind of cute kitchen tree. But for now, my crepe paper radishes are tied up and hanging in a bunch off the side of my storage wardrobe.
